21st Century Learning

Growing up with a computer and open access to the internet, I know first-hand the changing landscape in which learners are growing, exploring, and expressing themselves. Giving students the skills and tools necessary to communicate their understandings and thoughts in modern multimedia is not preparing them for the future so much as it is giving them access to the world in which they already live. Coding, blogging and social media, digital citizenship, and elements of graphic design are all embedded in my teaching.

Of course, technology and digital literacy are not warehoused skills that are just a subject unto their own. The way students learn to interact with each other and the wider world digitally informs and interacts with how they learn and develop academically and socially. I work with families, colleagues, and administration to plan for integration of technological skills and to meet students and families and support them in the roles technology takes in their lives.

Digital Citizenship

Having worked and taught in China, I had to be innovative in finding social media avenues for students to begin sharing their work and exploring ideas of Digital Citizenship. Through collaboration with the Learning Technology Coaches and other interested educators, I have integrated regular blogging, viewing, commenting, and reflection into the inquiry and academic learning of every day. As I left the Great Firewall, this passion has stayed alive for me.

I have experience using a variety of digital platforms and models of device integration. I am well-versed in Seesaw, Google Apps for Education, and Easyblog/Edublogs, as well as numerous different apps and websites.

I am a BookCreator Ambassador and a Seesaw Ambassador.
